Cabin Reveal!

Susan's Scoop

It's Almost Done!

I know I’ve been teasing cabin updates for a while, and we are almost done with the refresh of our mountain cabin in East Tennessee! (We’d be completely finished if it weren’t for the blizzard that rolled through a few days ago. ❄️)

I’m honestly so happy with how it turned out. Our designer, Anya Dykes with RAD Designs, was amazing and helped us transform the space into the “rustic modern” vibe we were going for, rather than the… let’s call it “Grandma chic” look we had before. 😉

All in, we spent about $15k, which covered new furniture, décor, appliances, cabinet painting, granite countertops, labor, and design fees. It feels like a totally new place.

I’d love to hear what you think!

What I'm Reading

📕 How Not to Invest: The ideas, numbers, and behaviors that destroy wealth―and how to avoid them by Barry Ritholtz

I’m usually not a huge fan of books written by investment advisors, but this one honestly could have saved me a lot of headaches if it had existed 20 years ago when I first started investing.

For once, the author is refreshingly honest about the fact that advisors and market forecasters have no idea what’s really going to happen, and when they do get it right, it’s usually more luck than skill.

We talked about this in our Wealth Wednesday session yesterday: no one has a crystal ball. You can’t outsource your financial decisions to talking heads on TV or flashy predictions online. Your portfolio needs to be diversified and built around your risk tolerance and goals - not based on wild projections or market hype.

Join us for free the first Wednesday of each month for an informative money conversation!

Next Up: 2026 Real Estate Market Outlook

In our February session we discussed the 2026 Stock Market Outlook, so in March we will go over the 2026 Real Estate Market Outlook! We will tell you EXACTLY what's going to happen and then try to sell you a bunch of products based on that. (Just kidding! As usual, we will give you an objective view of what's happening and help you make the best decisions for your own situation. 😊)

Caitlin's Corner A Women's Money Workshop, In My Friend's Kitchen At a time when horrific events are unfolding across our country and so many are feeling the weight of fear and uncertainty, it feels especially important not to ignore that reality, but also to lean into our shared humanity, compassion, and care for one another. I had an experience this week while facilitating a workshop that made me feel deeply human, even while talking about a rigid and unjust system that our lives depend on....

Dunning-Kruger Effect curve

Susan's Scoop Why feeling lost is actually a sign of progress I’m currently writing this from my cabin in TN, where my husband Brian and I are spending most of the week working on our cabin ‘refresh’ after not having any luck selling it last year (you can read about that whole saga in Part 1 and Part 2, ugh). Tomorrow the new countertops and couches arrive (yay!), but after what I found while cleaning out one of the closets this morning (accompanied by lots of shrieking on my part), I’ve been...

Caitlin's Corner Dinner Hosting & Our Money - The Minimum Viable "Enough" I recently read an article that spoke to my soul. The writer (Amanda Litman) and her husband had made a bold, yet simple 2025 resolution: for the entire year, they would invite people over to their home every. Single. Saturday. And they did it! What made me so excited about this story (other than the menu they shared) is that the author doesn't have a big, fancy house with endless time to clean and decorate. She paints...
